Self-care Sunday

Suddenly in the mood for a proper facial? Claim the bathroom, run a bath and follow these steps to unwind and to come out well prepared. Not only will your skin be twice as clean, but everything you apply afterwards will work all the better for it.

Step 1: A professional cleanse

Start by removing dirt and make-up with a cleansing gel, oil or balm. Apply the Carrot Butter Cleanser by The Organic Pharmacy to still-dry skin using circular movements. Then remove it with a muslin cloth, cleansing sponge or facecloth soaked in warm water.

Step 2: A deeper cleanse with a scrub

Keep your skin slightly damp for the next step: a facial scrub or peel. Gently massage in the Resurfacing Exfoliator with blueberry and raspberry seeds by Aromatherapy Associates, using circular movements. This removes dead skin cells and encourages the skin to renew. Then take the scrub off again with a damp facecloth or a cleansing sponge.

Step 3: A restoring mask

Apply an anti-ageing or restoring face mask, such as the creamy Diamond Luminous Perfecting Glowing Mask by Natura Bissé, with a foundation brush for even more of a salon feeling, keeping the area around the eyes clear. Relax for around twenty minutes, then gently remove the mask with the cleansing sponge or warm facecloth.

Step 4: A toner

Not to be confused with a tonic, a toner helps to calm the skin after a deeper cleanse. Toners often come as a spray, as they have a watery texture. The natural, calming Rose Water by Santa Maria Novella is for both the face and the body and has hydrating and firming properties.

Step 5: A smoothing serum

A serum contains specific active ingredients and works deep into the skin. It gives the skin that little bit of extra nourishment it needs at certain times. New from Perricone MD, the High Potency Intensive Soothing Serum combines a high concentration of niacinamide, ceramides (organic olive oil) and DMAE to help soften rough, uneven texture, enlarged pores and lines.

Step 6: Eye care

An eye cream has hydrating properties, but depending on the formula it can also address concerns such as fine lines and wrinkles, dark circles, puffiness or loss of firmness.
The Lifting Eye Gel by The Organic Pharmacy is a refreshing gel that firms and hydrates the delicate skin around the eyes. The clear gel is enriched with eyebright and kigelia extracts to soften fine lines and reduce pigmentation.

Step 7: A moisturiser with SPF and a hint of colour

To protect your skin from particulate pollution and UV rays, it is best to wear a day cream with an SPF. The Diamond Cocoon Sheer Cream SPF 30 by Natura Bissé can also be worn as a foundation, on a Sunday.
