When the Frenchman Robert Bienaimé founded his eponymous brand in 1935, he was a perfumer recognised by his peers for his innate talent and unmistakable know-how. A chemist by profession, he would go on to prove himself one of the most gifted noses of his generation. In his first year, Robert Bienaimé launched five fragrances, among them La Vie en Fleurs and Vermeil, which still feature in the collection today.

When Robert Bienaimé died in 1960, the brand lay dormant for decades before being reborn in 2021 under the direction of Cécilia Mergui. Cécilia has been passionate about Art Deco aesthetics since childhood, collecting objects, drawings and furniture from the period. While browsing an online flea market, she came across a powder compact by the Bienaimé brand. Refillable ahead of its time, this beauty object caught her curiosity through its Art Deco aesthetic and its sustainable nature.

Faithful to the heritage of Robert Bienaimé, Cécilia Mergui follows in the footsteps of the brand’s founder, for whom she holds great admiration and respect. Her ambition? To honour the splendour of the House of Bienaimé and lend it a touch of modernity.
